Digué Diawara's basketball bio

Digué Diawara was born on October 3, 1998, in Saint-Denis, France.

His first played with ASVEL U21 squad on February 2, 2015, in a game at Limoges at age 16. But it took him three seasons to perform at that level, ending the 2016-17 campaign with 11.2 points and 6.2 rebounds per game.

U16 European Basketball Champion in 2014

But Digué Diawara was on every French team's radar since August, 2014. He was part of the French U16 National Team that won the 2014 European Basketball Championship. The team was undefeated in 9 games, and Diawara averaged 2.4 points, 2.2 rebounds in only 8.1 minutes. The French were led by Bathiste Tchouaffe (14.7 points, 4.5 rebounds) and Killian Tillie (14.3 points, 9.5 rebounds).

On October 29, 2016, Digué Diawara played his first professional game with ASVEL in French Jeep Elite. At 18 years old. That season, he only played 4 games with the Pros, scoring only two free-throws against Chalon on December 10, 2016.

U18 European Basketball Champion in 2016

Digué Diawara was a European Champion again in December, 2016, with the French U18 National Team. Being undefeated once again in 6 games, he had 6.3 points and 3.0 rebounds in 14.0 minutes per game. That team was led by Sekou Doumbouya (17.8 points, 7.0 rebounds), Frank Ntilikina (15.2 points, 4.5 assists, 2.2 steals) and Bathiste Tchouaffe (10.0 points, 4.7 rebounds).

During the month of July, 2017, Digué Diawara played with the U20 French National team at the U20 European Basketball Championship. His team loss only one game and ended up winning the bronze medal. He averaged 7.1 points and 3.7 rebounds in 15.1 minutes. The team was led by Amine Noua (12.9 points, 7.9 rebounds) and Elie Okobo (12.3 points, 3.3 rebounds, 4.0 assists) who was Drafted by the Phoenix Suns in the second round (31) of the 2018 NBA Draft.

First Basket with the Pros

Struggling to find playing time with ASVEL, one of the top teams in the league, Digué Diawara chose to join a smaller team, Hyères-Toulon, during the summer of 2017. He scored his first field goal with the pros on September 30, 2017, in a win against Limoges. Diawara played 31 Jeep Elite games during the 2017-2018 season, averaging 2.3 points, and 1.8 rebounds in 10.8 minutes. His best performance came in a loss against Antibes, on February 9, 2018, when he had 12 points, 4 rebounds and 3 blocks in 17 minutes.

On July 21, 2018, Pau-Orthez announced the signing of Diawara, then 19 years old. « He is one of the best French players in his generation, and we've been following him since his tryouts with INSEP » said coach Laurent Vila. « This kid has enormous upside, we really plan on playing him, and help him reach his full potential. »

Declaring for the NBA Draft after a good Jeep Elite season

Laurent Vila kept his word as Digué Diawara played more than 15 minutes per game during the 2018-2019 season, averaging 6.0 points and 2.4 rebounds. It took only two months for Diawara to have his best Jeep Elite game : on November 10, 2018, he scored 15 points with 4 rebounds in a win against Le Portel.

On April 20, 2019, Digué Diawara declared for the 2019 NBA Draft.
