Lamelo Ball's Basketball Journey

Lamelo Ball is a professional basketball player born on August 22, 2001, in Chino Hills (California). His height is six foot five (1m98 / 6'5"). He is a shooting guard who will play in Australia in 2019-2020 with the goal to enter in the next NBA draft.

Chino Hills High School debuts

Brother of Lonzo Ball and LiAngelo Ball, son of LaVar and Tina Ball, LaMelo first played for Chino Hills High School in California (its hometown) and was quickly recognized as one of the top prospects of its class. He averaged 16.4 points and 3.8 assists per game as a Freshman in 2015, then 26.7 points and almost 10 assists per game as a Sophomore in 2016, including a 92 points performance in a 146–123 win.

Moving overseas to gain basketball experience

During his Junior year, LaMelo played overseas with Prienu Skycop (Lithuania - LKL), alongside his brother LiAngelo. He played a total of 8 games for 6.5 points and 2.4 assists per games, with poor shooting percentage: 26.8% fields goals and 25.0% from 3 points. He had a game high 19 points and 6 assists in 27 minutes against the best Lithuanian team: Zalgiris and former NBA players as Beno Udrih and Axel Toupane.

For its Senior season, LaMelo Ball joined SPIRE Institute in Ohio for a few games before signing with the Illawarra Hawks in Australia - NBL Australia for the 2019-2020 season: "Australia really made sense for me," Ball told ESPN. "They have a really strong league, with excellent coaches and great players, including former and future NBA players... My goal is to be the top pick in next year's draft..."

Potential top 10 for the 2020 NBA draft?

He will compete with other NBA prospect R.J. Hampton who will play for the New Zealand Breakers New Zealand Breakers before a probable entry in the next 2020 NBA Draft with high expectations (Top 5? Top 10?).

Hampton and Ball will face each other in the Australian NBL as Lamelo is starting for the Illawarra Hawks.

2019-2020 season in Australia

Lamelo Ball started his season in Australia with a geat outing against the Brisbane Bullets, scoring 12 points, with 10 rebounds et 5 assists. In a league known to be extremely physical, his 10 rebounds impressed. He put up good figures in October, averaging nearly 12 points, 6 rebounds and 6 assists. His shooting remained a questionmark, though, since he shot 36% from the field and 12% from three in his first 5 games.
