Ryo Tawatari's Basketball Journey

Ryo Tawatari stated his career playing for the Ohlone College Renegades, during the 2013-2014 season. As a freshman he averaged 4.2 points and 1.4 assists, playing in 29 games. His career took off the next year as he recorded 13.7 points and 4.1 assists in 29 contests. He had a season high 29 points on January 14, 2015, in a loss against Skyline.

After a brilliant sophomore season, Tawatari transferred to Dominican University of California, a NCAA Division II school that competes in the Pacific West Conference. He played 28 games as a junior, averaging 9.4 points and 4.0 assists per game. He was named Dominican Men's Basketball Newcomer of the Year.

The following season (2016-2017), his last in college, the 23 year old averaged 8.4 points and 4.6 assists in 26 contests.

After four years in the USA, Ryo Tawatari went back to Japan to start his professional career with the Yokohama Corsairs. He averaged 6.4 points and 3.0 assists as a rookie, and 9.7 points and 4.0 assists during the 2018-2019 season.

Personal life

Ryo Tawatari was born in Tokyo, Japan. His parents are Keiko and Masaru Tawatari. He has two older brothers: Toshichika Tawatari and Syuto Tawatari. He majored in communications at the Dominican University of California.
